Monitoring stack emissions: techniques and standards for periodic monitoring

  1. Added method for brominated flame retardants. Clarified use of alternative analyser techniques within standard reference methods. Removed guidance on determining hexavalent chromium in fine particulate matter. Deleted use of mass spectrometry for halogens and halides. Added lithium to scope of metals that can be measured using EN 14385.

  2. Updates to the monitoring standards for carbon disulfide, carbonyl sulfide, formaldehyde, mercury and metals. Added monitoring methods for per and polyfluorinated alkyl substances and volatile fluorinated compounds.

  3. Updated the monitoring standards for bioaerosols, carbon dioxide, hydrogen fluoride and nitric acid vapour to remove out of date standards.

  4. Amended entries for aldehydes, formaldehyde, amines, dioxin and furans, hydrogen chloride and hydrogen fluoride.

  5. The updates include the publication of new European and international standards for the measurement of bioaerosols, carbon dioxide and hydrogen fluoride. Implementation dates for these standards have been specified. Additional information has been provided on the use of CEN TS 17337 - Stationary source emissions - Determination of mass concentration of multiple gaseous species - Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.
