MOT tester annual training topics: motorcycles

This document shows which MOT tester training topics you need to have training records for.
The list is split by training years, which were:
- April 2023 to March 2024
- April 2022 to March 2023
- May 2021 to March 2022
- May 2020 to April 2021
- April 2019 to April 2020
The start and end date of some training years was affected by COVID-19, which is why some do not start in April.
Use the list to make sure you have the right records.
You and the business you work for can be suspended from MOT testing if you do not keep the right records.
What the record needs to show
Your training record needs to show:
- the MOT annual training year (for example April 2023 to March 2024)
- the date of the training
- how long the training session lasted
- what topics you covered during the session
- notes on what you did, how you did it and what you learned
- what vehicle groups your training covered
- your name and MOT testing service user ID
April 2023 to March 2024

- registering a vehicle for an MOT test
- using MOT testing equipment
- MOT test procedures
- the MOT inspection manual for motorcycles and sidecars
April 2022 to March 2023
The topics you need training records for are:
- brake test procedures
- MOT test procedures
- managing your MOT account/continuing professional development (CPD)
- the MOT inspection manual for motorcycles and sidecars
May 2021 to March 2022
The topics you need training records for are:
- new vehicle technology
- MOT test procedures
- MOT testing requirements
- corrosion and standards of repair
- the MOT inspection manual for motorcycles and sidecars
May 2020 to April 2021
The topics you need training records for are:
- requirements for issuing various documents
- the disciplinary points system
- which vehicle categories fall under group A (class1 and 2)
- the MOT inspection manual for motorcycles and sidecars
April 2019 to April 2020
The topics you need training records for are:
- updates to testing standards since 2018
- using the MOT testing service to improve test quality and to update user profile details
- vehicle identification, tyres, lighting, brakes and the introduction section of the MOT inspection manual
