This guidance provides additional information for microbiologists regarding susceptibility testing for Shigella spp.

It relates to PHE’s investigation of a specific MDR cluster of CTX-M-27 S. sonnei identified in the UK and USA in 2018 (10-SNP cluster CC 152 1.3.197.460.1360.%).

It also discusses the limited treatment options available for this strain.
