Commitments for Women and Girls with Disabilities

Development of UN Women Corporate Strategy on Disability and Inclusion [Development of Institutional Approach]: By the end of 2018, UN Women will launch its corporate strategy for the empowerment of women and girls with disabilities focusing on: (a) mainstreaming gender, age and disability perspectives throughout UN Women’s work, (b) specific initiatives targeting women and girls with disabilities, and (c) inclusion of women and girls of all ages with disabilities in UN Women’s work. UN Women will do so by: (a) strengthening normative frameworks, policies, and programmes for women and girls with disabilities, (b) building strategic partnerships in support of this agenda, and (c) enhancing inclusive management for physical accessibility.
Timeframe and/or implementation plan (75 words limit)
By 2021, UN Women will have data disaggregated by disability status for 9 development results indicators of its Strategic Plan and about 80 percent of UN Women’s country programmes will include some form of focus on women and girls with disabilities.

Targeted/Projectized Intervention - Special Window Addressing Violence against Women and Girls with Disabilities: In 2018, UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (administered by UN Women for UN System) will award 9 Projects in 5 regions within the special funding window aiming to respond to the needs of women and girls with disabilities in the 21st grant giving cycle. The total amount awarded to these 9 initiatives is US$ 2,974,360 and will reach nearly 8,000 women and girls with disabilities.
