This guidance is designed to support those local authorities and other organisations that wish to undertake additional investigation of the data. It covers:

• an overview of the NCMP data and analyses provided by Public Health England (now the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities) and NHS Digital (now NHS England)
• how to access the NCMP data set
• which NCMP data can be shared between organisations
• guidance on the appropriate use of the NCMP data set to comply with data protection and disclosure rules
• suggestions for regional, local and neighbourhood analyses
• caveats associated with the NCMP data and its interpretation
• suggestions for local data quality checks
