This National Emergency Plan, revised July 2023, sets out established procedures for responding to gas and electricity emergencies.

Details

The National Emergency Plan for downstream gas and electricity provides an overview of the national arrangements for the safe and effective management of both downstream gas and electricity supply emergencies, established between:

  • government
  • the downstream gas and electricity industry
  • the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem)
  • the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
  • other interested parties

  1. We have updated the National Emergency Plan for Downstream Gas and Electricity to reflect enhancements to operational procedures and the interactions between the sectors in the event of an emergency; also updates to governance and regulation, and to names of organisations and linked documents.

  2. Document updated to include a new common regional chapter under the provisions of the Security of Gas Supply Regulation 2017/1938. The chapter sets out arrangements for dealing with gas supply emergencies.
