Quick guide to these resources - what they are and how to use them

Published 30 June 2021

All apprentices in the UK are entitled to be paid at least the National Minimum Wage. However, it is estimated that around one in five apprentices may not be paid correctly.

It’s important that apprentices and their employers understand their rights and obligations around the National Minimum Wage.

We want apprentices to:

  • know what they are entitled to
  • understand what they can do if they are not being paid the minimum wage correctly

We want employers to:

  • ensure their apprentices are getting what they should be
  • make sure they are meeting their own legal responsibilities
  • know that help and support is available

How you can help

We have provided these communications resources for stakeholders and partners to use across your own channels to help share important information and helpful messages with apprentices and employers. They include:

  • sample social media messages and visuals
  • suggested blog posts
  • key messaging
  • some sample wage calculations for employers

We have divided the resources into 2 sections:

  • messages aimed at apprentices
  • messages aimed at employers

We would like to ask you to use these materials to share these important messages with apprentices and their employers via your own channels, including your social media platforms. The messages can be personalised as necessary.

The resources should be used in conjunction with dedicated guidance on the National Minimum wage.

If you have any questions about using these materials, please contact HMRC’s National Minimum Wage team: nmw.contact@hmrc.gov.uk
