National Policy Statements for energy infrastructure

The energy National Policy Statements set out the government’s policy for delivery of major energy infrastructure.

These 2011 National Policy Statements for energy infrastructure have been superseded by the 2023 revised versions which came into force on 17 January 2024.

The 2011 version of the National Policy Statement for Nuclear Power Generation (EN-6) had effect for listed nuclear projects capable of being deployed by the end of 2025. We are in the process of preparing a new National Policy Statement.

Details

The National Policy Statements (NPSs) set out the government’s policy for delivery of major energy infrastructure.

The guidance has effect, in combination with the relevant technology-specific NPS, on the decisions by the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) on applications for energy developments that fall within the scope of the NPSs.
