National Trust (Renewable Energy) Limited: application made to abstract water and impound water

National Trust (Renewable Energy) Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for two licences.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The first application is for a full licence to abstract (take) water from Woundale Beck at Windermere, Cumbria at National Grid Reference (NGR) NY 41371 06386.
The application is to abstract water all year at the following rates:
- 486 cubic metres an hour
- 11,664 cubic metres a day
- 4,257,360 cubic metres a year
- At an instantaneous rate not exceeding 135 litres per second.
The water will be used to generate hydro-electric power (HEP) before being discharged downstream of the weir at NGR NY 41905 05832 thereby creating a 900 metre depleted reach.
The second application is for a licence to impede the flow of Woundale Beck at the abstraction point in Windermere, Cumbria at NGR NY 41371 06386, by installing a stone faced concrete intake structure across the face of the watercourse to facilitate abstraction.
