National Trust (Renewable Energy) Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a full licence to abstract water from the Whillan Beck at Boot, Cumbria at National Grid Reference NY 18589 02987.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
- 792 cubic metres an hour
- 19,008 cubic metres a day
- 6,937,920 cubic metres a year
at a maximum instantaneous rate of 220 litres per second
The water will be used for power production (hydroelectric power).
National Trust (Renewable Energy) Limited has also applied to the Environment Agency for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the Whillan Beck at Boot, Cumbria at National Grid Reference NY 18589 02987.
By building a weir water will be impounded to facilitate the above abstraction.
