Landscape Recovery Project implementation phase privacy notice

Landscape recovery focuses on large-scale and ambitious land use change and habitat restoration to support Environmental Improvement Plan targets. The scheme is open to all farmers and land managers across England on a competitive application basis.

Following the 2-year project development phase, the project implementation phase (PIP) (which this privacy notice covers) will be for 20+ years and will support agreement holders to realise the ambitions for the scheme through the receiving of funding (grants and payments), submission and review of evidence of project progress.

What personal data’s collected and how it’s used

The personal data we collect about you includes:

  • name and contact details
  • anonymised visitor and stakeholder information – such as demographics and postcodes
  • visitor surveys
  • anonymised anti-social behaviour reports
  • personal data of landowners and tenants – contact details, SBI numbers, parcel numbers, schemes or grants in receipt of, land management under schemes
  • bank details of the grant recipient as single legal entity
  • personal data related to claims for employee staff costs, for example payslips or payroll reports, to verify claims and enable payment (NI numbers should be redacted by projects before providing payslips)
  • employer information on staff costs – pension and National Insurance contributions

We use your personal data to administer the Landscape Recovery project implementation phase.

Public task - you have a statutory obligation under enactment or rule of law, your organisation has official authority, or it is necessary for the exercise of the [legal] function of the data Controller. The law or the legal function must be stated.

Processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest, which is laid down by law in sections 1 and 2 of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006 Act. This sets out Natural England’s general purposes. The task is the planning and administration of NCEA activity essential to describe the extent and condition of, and changes in, England’s natural capital (species, habitats and landscapes) which we all rely on.

Entering into the Landscape Recovery scheme is consensual. 

However once your application has been completed and received by Natural England the processing of your personal data is not based on consent and you cannot withdraw it as it’s necessary for the administration  of your application and the scheme.

Who Natural England shares your personal data with

In order to administer the scheme, Natural England will share the personal data collected under this privacy notice with:

  • Defra
  • Environment Agency
  • Rural Payments Agency
  • Forestry Commission
  • Historic England
  • Heritage Lottery Fund

Natural England respects your personal privacy when responding to access to information requests. We only share information when necessary to meet the statutory requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

How long Natural England holds personal data

Natural England will keep your personal data for 7 years after the end of your implementation agreement.

What happens if you do not provide the data requested

If you do not provide the data you will be unable to sign the implementation agreement and enter the PIP.

Use of automated decision-making or profiling

The information you provide is not used for:

  • automated decision-making (making a decision by automated means without any human involvement)
  • profiling (automated processing of personal data to evaluate certain things about an individual)

Transfer of data outside the UK

Natural England will only transfer your data to another country that is deemed adequate for data protection purposes.
