This guidance tells HM Passport Office staff when customers must send naturalisation or registration certificates to support their claim to a British passport and how to progress an application.

It includes information on:

  • changes in customer’s personal details
  • when, why and how to check a customer’s nationality certificate with UK Visa and Immigration’s (UKVI) systems
  • querying a nationality certificate with UKVI
  • recording a customer’s naturalisation or registration certificate
