In November 2022 ahead of COP27, the UK joined the Net Zero Government Initiative as a partner and signatory. The Initiative is led by the United States and participants agreed to develop and publish a roadmap laying out how they would bring their government emissions to net zero by 2050.

This roadmap covers the policies and interim targets that are central to decarbonising the UK’s governments. It draws from existing strategy documents including:
