Details

This research report builds the evidence base around societal change and net zero.

It does this by:

  • reviewing existing evidence and mapping out a long list of behaviours that could impact on carbon emissions.
  • modelling the impact of different behaviours to assess their contribution to reducing (or increasing) energy system costs on the transition to net zero.
  • carrying out a scoping study to identify potential improvements for considering the impacts of societal change in energy models going forward.
  • an international review of public engagement and participation initiatives.

The research was carried out by Energy Systems Catapult. It was commissioned by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
