     Updated the 'Section 6A approved and under consideration schools' lists, moving Harrogate Free School to the schools approved list and changing the status of 8 newly opened schools.

     Removed the 'Local authorities seeking proposers' list, as there are currently no local authorities seeking proposers for new school projects. Added Broadnook, Garendon Park and Ledsham Garden Village primary schools to ‘Schools under consideration’ in 'Section 6A approved and under consideration schools'.

  3. 10 July 2026

     ‘Local authorities seeking proposers’ now includes Bradnook, Charnwood and Garendon Park, Loughborough. In ‘Section 6A approved and under consideration schools’, Threeways, Halifax is now included in 'Schools under consideration' following competition, and Keynsham has been moved from ‘Schools under consideration’ to ‘Schools approved under section 6a’.

These are primary schools in Nottinghamshire and Lancashire, and a secondary school in Bath and North East Somerset.

      Updated ‘Local authorities seeking proposers’ to include an all-through special school in Gloucestershire. In ‘Section 6A approved and under consideration schools’, moved Valley Park Primary School in Oxfordshire from ‘schools under consideration’ to ‘schools approved’ and updated the name of Warfield All Saints Primary School to Hawthorn Academy.

These are primary schools in Chester West and Chester, Peterborough, Suffolk, and Staffordshire, and a special secondary school in Bracknell Forest.

      Sixteen schools on the ‘Section 6A approved and under consideration’ spreadsheet have recently opened. We have edited their entries and updated their names. We have also added Warfield All Saints, which is now under consideration. We have taken the Warfield project off of the ‘local authorities seeking proposers’ spreadsheet, where we have also added a project in Bath and North East Somerset.

Removed from the 'Local authorities seeking proposers' spreadsheet and added to 'Schools under consideration': a primary school in Chester (Cheshire West and Chester), an all-through special school in Romford (Havering), a first school at Foxlydiate (Worcestershire) and a primary school in Hartland Village (Hampshire). Moved from 'Schools under consideration' to 'Schools approved': primary schools in Burleyfields (Staffordshire) and Weston Super Mare (North Somerset).

      On ‘Local authorities seeking proposers', 2 primary projects have been removed: St John’s Grange in Lichfield (Staffordshire) and Henley Gate in Ipswich (Suffolk). Foxlydiate first school, Redditch (Worcestershire) and Hartland Village primary project, Fleet (Hampshire) have been added. On 'Section 6A approved and under consideration schools', we have added 2 primary projects to 'Schools under consideration’: St John's Grange in Lichfield and Henley Gate in Ipswich. Schools that have moved from 'Schools under consideration' to 'Schools approved' are Greenwich Special Free School, Thanington Primary School (Kent), Ravensdale Special School Mansfield (Nottinghamshire) and 3 primary schools in Buckinghamshire: Hampden Fields, Salden Chase in South West Milton Keynes and Orchard Green in Kingsbrook.

      Two primary school proposals are now under consideration in Staffordshire, at St John’s Grange, Lichfield and Burleyfields, Stafford. An all-through special school in Greenwich is also under consideration. Overstone Leys primary school in West Northamptonshire and an all-through special school in Eastleigh, in Hampshire, have been approved. We have removed the local authorities seeking proposers spreadsheets, as there are currently no entries.

'Section 6A approved and under consideration schools': the all-through special school in Gloucester has been added to 'schools under consideration' and Gateford Primary Academy has been moved from 'schools under consideration' to 'schools approved'.

      'Local authorities seeking proposers': deadline extended for a special school in North Yorkshire and added an all-through special school in Nottinghamshire. 'Section 6A approved and under consideration schools': primary projects have been approved in Basingstoke, Hampshire, Bedford and Aldershot.

      In 'local authorities seeking proposers', an all-through special school (Gloucester) and a primary school in Coalville (Leicestershire) have been added. In 'Section 6A approved and under consideration schools', 2 primary schools, Airfield Farm (Leicestershire) and Silfield Primary (Norfolk), have been moved from 'under consideration' to 'schools approved'. In the ‘Section 6A’ documents, 2 projects in Tamworth have moved from ‘schools under consideration’ to ‘schools approved’. The ‘Tamworth, Golf Course’ project name is now ‘Tamworth, Garden Village’.

Tamworth, Dunstall Farm and Tamworth, Golf Course in Staffordshire have been added to the 'Schools under construction' tab. Thoresby Vale in Nottinghamshire, Kingsley Fields, Nantwich in Cheshire East and Cringleford, Norfolk have been removed from the 'Schools under construction' tab and moved to the 'Schools approved' tab. Hinckley, Stroud, Brent Special Secondary, Worcester (with new school name Worcester City Secondary School) and Snelsmoor Grange, Boulton Moor (with new school name Oak Grange Primary School) have moved from the schools under consideration tab to the schools approved tab. Lankenheath has been removed, and North Surrey Grove Farm's school name has changed to Hopescourt School from ASD-Designated Special Free School, in the schools approved tab.

In 'Section 6A approved/under consideration schools' documents 5 projects have been moved from the schools under consideration tab to the schools approved tab (Sires Hill Primary Academy, Anna Seward Primary, Oakley Grove School, Manchester City Centre Presumption Free School, ASD-Designated Special Free School). 'Schools approved' updated to show 19 presumption schools opened in September 2022.

‘Section 6A approved and under consideration schools’ contains details of:

• academies and free schools that have approval
• free schools that do not yet have approval under the academies and free school presumption section of the Education and Inspections Act 2006

It includes the:

• name of the local authority
• proposed location of the school at the time of approval
• phase of education
• proposed opening date at the time of approval (which can change)

There are currently no local authorities seeking proposers for new school projects.
