New SIA training requirements: research and consultation

- list of board of directors for dissemination
- current analysis of the private security industry used to aid in the decision-making process for the new regulations (that is: emergency first aid before being able to take any of the new security guarding, door supervision and close protection courses; close protection renewals/new licensees now having to take the door supervision physical intervention training)
- prevention of future death reports from coroner’s courts which aided the decision to change the training requirements for licence holders
- reports from the security consultation companies used
- where public consultations were held
- current analysis used for the decision

2.1 List of board of directors

2.3 Prevention of future death reports
The following prevention of future death reports have made recommendations which aided the decision to change the training requirements for licence holders:
- Inquest touching the death of Hywel Llewelyn Hughes – Report dated 2 July 2014
- Inquest touching the death of Michael Roger Stuart Lawrence – Report dated 3 November 2015
It ought to be noted that the SIA have provided evidence at a number of inquests on its training requirements. These inquests have not led to a prevention of future deaths report.
2.4 Reports from the security consultation companies used
The SIA did not commission or procure reports from security companies. However, a number of security companies responded to the consultation and a list of these can be found in the document ‘SIA New Licence-Linked Qualification Consultation Appendix – October 2018’.
2.5 Where public consultations were held
The public consultation was available via the SIA website.
