A guide to the new State Pension resource pack
Updated 6 April 2016

We published this information to help explain the introduction of the new State Pension from 6 April 2016.
The new State Pension has been introduced for people reaching State Pension age on or after 6 April 2016. The changes are designed to give people greater clarity about what pension they will get from the state in retirement. It’s likely your colleagues or networks will have questions about what these changes mean for them. We’ve produced this resource pack to help you answer these questions.
Emails, articles and bullet points
How do you get important messages to your employees or networks? By email? Through a newsletter or magazine? Perhaps you have an intranet, website or LinkedIn page. Or are your stakeholders active on social media? To help you get the message out quickly and easily we’ve provided an introductory email and other materials, including a more detailed article that can be used in whatever format suits your organisation best.
We’ve also included the main issues as bullet points so you can write your own articles if you prefer. If you communicate with your contacts face-to-face these bullet points will help guide you through the most important issues.
Factsheets
If you find you need more detail we’ve produced a series of factsheets covering:
- the link between National Insurance payments and your State Pension
- what contracting-out means for your pension and what will change when contracting-out ends
- how Starting Amounts in the new State Pension system are calculated, what that means for your pension and ways you can increase your State Pension
- deferral (some people choose not to claim their State Pension at their State Pension age. This factsheet explains how you can do this and what effect that will have)
View these and other useful materials in the State Pension toolkit or print them for distribution.
