Instructors play a vital role in helping offenders to change their lives, by instilling in them a work ethic that will give them the skills, confidence, discipline and drive to find work on the outside.

The role

As an Instructor, you’ll lead groups of prisoners in practical workshops on anything from carpentry and gardening to plumbing and bricklaying; sharing your workplace experience and expert knowledge.

Providing education, encouragement and support, you’ll help offenders gain the invaluable skills you gained in the workplace; giving them opportunity to thrive in the community upon release, gain employment and enjoy a future free from crime.

Instructors come from a wide variety of specialisms, including building, bricklaying, carpentry, catering, clothes making, gardening, plumbing, waste management, woodwork, welding and many more.

Training

You will get all the training you need to make use of your experience on an assembly line; in a warehouse; or in construction to lead your team – as you might on the factory floor or on a building site, making sure that the pace is maintained and standards don’t drop.

About you

As well as your practical skills, you’ll need to communicate well and have the maturity and strong interpersonal skills to earn our inmates’ trust. With confidence, determination and resilience you will quickly establish yourself as a mentor and role model.
