This guidance describes the systems and processes to follow when carrying out non-medical prescribing for substance misuse.

Nurse and pharmacist prescribers within substance misuse treatment can use this guidance to safely and effectively prescribe treatment in order to improve treatment programmes.

The guidance covers the specific challenges related to treatment of substance misuse and the potential risks involved. It makes sure that prescriptions are based on sound evidence and delivered by skilled and supported professionals.
