On 1 February 2021, News Corp UK and Ireland Limited (News UK) requested that the undertakings accepted by the Secretary of State on 23 July 2019 pursuant to paragraph 62 of Schedule 18 to the Communications Act 2003 instead of conditions attached to the Secretary of State’s consent to the transfer of The Times and The Sunday Times Newspapers to News UK (formerly known as News International Limited) be released.
On 25 November 2021, the Secretary of State, having considered advice from the Competition and Markets Authority and Ofcom, gave notice that she was minded to release the undertakings. The Secretary of State did not receive any representations.
Pursuant to paragraph 62(4)(c) of Schedule 18 to the Communications Act, the Secretary of State now gives notice of the release of News UK from the undertakings.
