Imports of Garlic from Countries other than China and EU Member States under Statutory Instrument No. 2020/1432

Introduction

This notice is to inform you of the next application round and quantity available for this quota for the period 1 February 2023 – 31 May 2023. Details of the quantity available is outlined in Annex 1 of this notice.

Proof of trade

If it is your first application in the quota year you must provide evidence to show that you have imported at least 25 tonnes of fruit and vegetables during:

  • the 12-month period ending two months before the first application can be submitted for the 2022/2023 quota year (1 March 2021 – 28 February 2022); and
  • the 12-month period immediately before that (1 March 2020 – 28 February 2021).

For reference, the eligible products are listed in Annex 2.

In addition to the above you must be established and registered for VAT in the UK. You must provide us with a copy of your current VAT registration certificate.

If you use electronic licences, we will need to see a schedule giving details of:

  • the licence number(s)
  • the date(s) of import;
  • the weight of each electronic attribution; and
  • the import entry number for each electronic attribution.

For imports without a licence you must supply a copy of the C88 import document certified as a “true copy” of the original, stamped and signed by Customs. If your declaration was made on CDS you must also supply a copy of the CDS declaration stamped by Customs.

Quantity available

The available quantity under this quota is set out in Annex 1.

Licence applications

Your application must be received between 1 January and 5pm on 6 January 2023.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your application, all supporting documentation and your security, is correct at the time of submission.

Note: We will reject any applications received after 5pm on 6 January 2023.

Your application must include:

  • in box 8, the country of origin, and a cross in the ‘No’ box;
  • in box 15, the full CN code description as:

“Onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables, fresh or chilled: Garlic”.

  • in box 20, ‘Statutory Instrument 2020 No. 1432’ and ‘Quota Order No. 05.4106’

Licence security

Your application must be accompanied by a security £60 per tonne.

Licence validity

Your licence will be valid from 1 February 2023 until the end of the quota year (31 May 2023).

Please note that the reduced duty will only be valid for the quantities shown in sections 17 and 18 of your licence.
