The Department of Health (DH) and the British Generic Manufacturers Association (BGMA), who produced these guidelines, want companies to get in touch with DH as soon as possible about coming medicine shortages that might have an impact on patient care. This will allow the DH and the industry to work together to manage the shortage and to make back-up arrangements where they are needed.
