Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from Rainworth Water near Rufford, Nottinghamshire at National Grid Reference (NGR) SK 64863 64616 to transfer it to a newly excavated channel without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 716 cubic metres an hour

  • 17,184 cubic metres a day

  • 6,272,160 cubic metres a year

  • between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water is being transferred to a new channel to create areas of habitat for wildlife. All of the abstracted water will be returned to the Rainworth Water approximately 100 metres downstream at NGR SK 64818 64707.
