Details of the application

The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Equinix (UK) Limited.

Regulated facility type

Section 1.1 A(1) (a) Burning any fuel in an appliance with a rated thermal input of 50 megawatts or more.

The site is currently permitted to operate 22 standby emergency diesel generators (totalling 131.15MWth) to provide power to the data centre in case of power blackout from the grid. The operator has applied for a substantial variation to add a further 7 standby emergency diesel generators (with a total of 41MWth power) to the existing 22.
