In addition to the legislative requirement, an arm’s length body review, pursuant to the Cabinet Office Public Body Reform Programme was scheduled to take place concurrently, to ensure effective use of departmental resources.
The reviews considered the effectiveness of the Oil and Gas Authority in meeting its objectives, as required by the Energy Act 2016, and makes recommendations. The scope of the reviews included:
- fulfilment of statutory functions
- efficacy
- efficiency
- governance
- accountability
The recommendations aim to ensure that the North Sea Transition Authority, the business name of the Oil and Gas Authority, and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, continue to maintain a strong sponsorship arrangement.
