The Philippines officially recognises the birth of its 100 millionth citizen, precipitating national discussion over the political, economic, and environmental consequences of the country’s rising demographic pressures. A rapidly growing population will put a strain on the economy and natural resources. The landmark Reproductive Health bill should relieve some of the pressures.
