Details

The Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) was asked to review the 2014 Farm Animal Welfare Committee recommendations concerning the welfare of farmed fish at the time of slaughter. This advice to UK Governments:

• reviews the landscape of the farmed fish industry in the UK in 2022
• reviews progress in the killing practices used in slaughterhouses and during on-farm slaughter
• assesses animal welfare issues relating to the killing of farmed fish
• reviews the 2014 recommendations to improve the welfare of farmed fish as well as making some more of its own

This AWC opinion was sent to government on 16 February 2023.
