It includes information that is relevant to the overall process of patient level costing and highlights specific areas where Monitor encourages NHS providers to focus during the planning stage for the 2014/15 collection and beyond.

The importance of patient level cost data
Patient level cost data is extremely valuable in support of price setting, financial and operational management within NHS providers and for the NHS as a whole in understanding the cost drivers that underpin the treatment of patients across a range of settings.
