Penning Power & Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to renew and vary licence serial number SW/043/0022/004 (now /R01) which authorises the abstraction of water from the underground strata comprising of Upper Chalk at National Grid References ST 92240 35410 (‘A’) and ST 92300 33900 (‘B’) at Berwick Hill Down, Berwick St Leonard, Salisbury, Wiltshire.
The variation applied for is to change the purposes authorised at point ‘A’ to ‘Water bottling’, ‘General farming (excluding irrigation)’, ‘Domestic’ and ‘General farming (excluding irrigation) and Domestic’ and to change the purposes authorised at point ‘B’ to ‘General farming (excluding irrigation)’ and ‘Domestic’. They have also applied to change the overall authorised quantities on the licence, the overall aggregate daily quantity on the licence will be increased from 240 cubic metres a day to 310 cubic metres a day with the aggregate annual quantity being reduced from 68,986 cubic metres a year to 57,443 cubic metres a year. The aggregate hourly quantity will not be changed.
