Expression of interest (EOI)
Updated 28 February 2024
As the UK moves into an exciting new era of lunar and other missions beyond Earth orbit, we want to be proactive in our regulatory policy making, enabling UK missions to the Moon and other celestial bodies while ensuring compliance with our international obligations under the Outer Space Treaty.
We are seeking expressions of interest for industry representatives to sit on a Planetary Protection Advisory Panel. We will invite one successful applicant to join the PPAP for one calendar year with anticipated commitment of three two-hour meetings per year starting late February 2024.
The PPAP will provide advice and help inform the regulatory policy for licensing space missions where there is the possibility of contamination of a celestial body, as well as missions returning to Earth from such bodies.
The PPAP will be chaired by Professor Karen Olsson-Francis, Director of Astrobiology OU at the Open University and the UK Space Agency representative to the COSPAR (Committee on Space Research) committee on Planetary Protection. The PPAP will consist of seven members drawn from the UK Space Agency, CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) and academic experts, as well as one industry specialist.
Successful applicants will be asked to complete a non-disclosure agreement and declare any conflicts of interest.
To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter via email by 5pm on Friday 8 March 2024.
