Planning for the future

Details

In the Budget given on 11 March 2020, the Chancellor outlined new funding for:

  • an extension of the Affordable Homes Programme with a new, multi-year settlement of £12 billion
  • over £1 billion of allocations from the Housing Infrastructure Fund to build nearly 70,000 new homes in high demand areas across the country
  • nearly £650 million of funding to help rough sleepers into permanent accommodation

The government’s plans for house-building, and tackling rough sleeping are here shown in more detail.

Planning for the future: consultation

On 6 August 2020 we launched our Planning for the future consultation which proposes reforms of the planning system to streamline and modernise the planning process, bring a new focus to design and sustainability, improve the system of developer contributions to infrastructure, and ensure more land is available for development where it is needed.
