Details

In 2023, 121 NHS trusts and independent-sector organisations participated in a national point prevalence survey (PPS) on healthcare-associated infections (HCAI), antimicrobial use (AMU) and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) in England. The survey aimed to provide a snapshot of the burden of HCAI and AMU in order to allow comparisons between organisations and over time.

This report and annexe present the findings of the survey.

As in previous surveys, all NHS and independent acute care hospitals were invited to participate but, for the first time, NHS community and mental health trusts were invited to participate as well.

Resources relating to the survey can be found at Point prevalence survey on HCAI, AMU and AMS in England: resources.

The main report and annexe will be supplemented by a report focusing on adult patients, and another on children and young people, scheduled to be published in April 2025.
