On 12 March the Home Secretary laid regulations to reform the Police Federation of England and Wales. The Home Secretary also made a written statement to parliament which provided an update on progress with the police federation’s reform programme to date and reaffirmed her intention to bring forward proposals to extend the Freedom of Information Act to cover the police federation. This would require a change in primary legislation. In the absence of a suitable opportunity in this parliament, the Home Secretary intends to fulfil this commitment as soon as possible in the next parliament. A draft clause has been published here to demonstrate how that change could be made in legislation.
