Details

Close to 551,000 people in the UK are managing a mental health condition. A large proportion of these are women who may be contemplating pregnancy or are at risk of unplanned pregnancy. Mental illness can refer to a wide range of conditions, which include bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, severe depression and psychosis.

Public Health England (PHE) has partnered with NHS England, Kings College London and Tommy’s to develop:

  • a rapid evidence review for preconception interventions for women with severe mental illness
  • resources for healthcare professionals to help them support women with serious mental illness who are planning a pregnancy or may wish to become pregnant in the future
