This guidance helps carriers and hauliers to prepare for the new requirement that, from 31 January 2025, any goods imported from the EU to Great Britain must be covered by a safety and security declaration.
It does not replace or amend the guidance on GOV.UK for those exporting to the EU from Great Britain and Northern Ireland, who already sign safety and security declarations.
From 31 January 2025, EU imports into Great Britain will require safety and security declarations. Those who export from Great Britain to the EU, or import into Great Britain from countries outside of the EU, are already required to submit declarations. In preparation for these new requirements, we are making it easier to complete declarations.
Safety and security declarations will bring important additional information to support the fight against illicit goods such as drugs and weapons entering the UK, and help to ensure that interventions at the border are based on risk.
