Prevent Duty: new burdens assessment

Details

The Counter Terrorism and Security Act received Royal Assent on 12 February 2015. The Prevent Duty will commence for all local authorities in England, Scotland and Wales on 1 July 2015.

Under the Prevent Duty local authorities will be required to have due regard to preventing people being drawn into terrorism. Guidance on what this involves was agreed by Parliament in March 2015 .

We have undertaken an assessment of the financial costs to local authorities of implementing the Prevent Duty and have concluded that £10,000 should be provided to non-priority Prevent areas.
