Baroness Hodge of Barking

Dear Baroness Hodge,

Prime Minister’s Anti-Corruption Champion

Following approval from the Prime Minister, we would like to formally offer you the position of the Prime Minister’s Anti-Corruption Champion.

Corruption and kleptocracy have a corrosive effect on our institutions, economic prosperity, and national security. They enable other forms of serious and organised crime which harm the public and the UK’s business community. Almost all UK foreign and development policy priorities are undermined by these threats. The Prime Minister is determined to fight corruption in all its forms, and we are delighted that you will be joining us at the forefront of these efforts.

The Champion’s role makes a real difference by driving the anti-corruption agenda across government, acting as a bridge to industry and civil society and engaging on UK priorities internationally. We believe you are ideally positioned to do this, to rally further Parliamentary support for our work on the Anti-Corruption Strategy and play and active role in the Foreign Secretary’s initiative to clamp down on illicit finance.

We are delighted, therefore, to offer you this role. The experience you bring through your longstanding work to tackle corruption and illicit finance, make you an outstanding candidate to be the Prime Minister’s Anti-Corruption Champion. We look forward to working with you on this important agenda alongside ministerial colleagues and officials.

Your role will formally begin on Monday 9 December 2024 and run until the end of this Parliament. You have been sent terms of reference and terms of engagement for the role, which we also attach to this letter. In the meantime, we look forward to working with you to strengthen the UK’s efforts on these issues.

Yours sincerely,

The Rt. Hon Yvette Cooper MP
