This document provides guidance to prison and probation staff on the design and delivery of rehabilitation services to help prisoners learn new skills, prepare for release and reduce the risk of reoffending.
It contains guidelines and recommendations to help ensure that:
- information is shared readily between prisons, probation services, rehabilitation service providers and other agencies to support the delivery of services
- prisoners have access to a broad range of rehabilitation services and understand their responsibilities when taking part
- prison staff encourage and motivate prisoners to take part in appropriate rehabilitation services
- prisoners have access to services that can help them with skills and education, employment, housing, personal finance, parenting, family and welfare needs
- prisoners who have been sex workers or victims of domestic violence, rape or abuse have access to appropriate support services
- prisoners are supported during their release and as they settle into the community
