The first annual report of the Prosperity Fund shows how the new Fund was set up and how its strategy was developed. It demonstrates the development impact that programmes can have on prosperity and reducing poverty overseas. The report highlights successful case studies from Prosperity Fund projects such as:

  • improving electricity infrastructure in South Africa to help stimulate inclusive economic growth
  • piloting mobile financial technology to empower economically disadvantaged women in Mexico
  • strengthening anti-money laundering capacity in India to improve the business environment

First year projects took place in: Angola, Argentina, Brazil, Burma, Chile, China, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Mozambique, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam. The projects laid the groundwork for the larger multi-year programmes operating from 2017 to 2018 onwards.

The report sets out the Fund’s objectives, governance structures, and how it supports the UK Aid Strategy (2015) and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. It explains how the fund will move forward into larger, multi-year programmes and the spread of programmes across countries and sectors.
