The Advisory Committee on the Safety of Blood, Tissues and Organs (SaBTO) recommend that all blood donations be tested for hepatitis E. They suggest that all organ and tissues for transplant should be tested.
Since the recommendations were made in October 2016, testing of organs and tissues has begun and universal screening of blood donations is in place.
SaBTO recommend universal screening for hepatitis E as the best way to protect patients, especially patients who have a compromised immune system.
