Details

This report uses data from the survey of childcare and early years providers for 2018 to analyse provider finances including the:

  • total cost and total income of delivering childcare
  • variation in unit costs and staff hourly pay
  • patterns in parent-paid hourly fees and additional charges for parents

It aims to develop an understanding of the financial models of different types of settings.

  1. Added a new version of 'Providers’ finances: survey of childcare and EY providers 2018'. The analysis of staff hourly pay was revised in April 2022 to correct an issue in the construction of the original weights in the staff level data.

  2. Corrected the figure, on page 29, of staff in settings with at least one male member of staff - from 33% to 23%.
