Details

This prison service instruction (PSI) explains how prisons should provide prisoners with the ID required to apply to open a basic bank account through the offender banking programme. This form of identification is not accepted at local bank branches and can be used only with this programme.

The PSI includes guidance on completing the personal identification document, which is used to:

  • confirm a prisoner’s identity from prison records
  • provide banks with the prisoner’s personal information and proposed address for when they leave prison

This is a current PSI. It came into effect on 1 August 2011.
