North East private finance project updates

1. Selected bidder announced - 8 May 2014
Education Funding Agency has provisionally appointed Miller Construction as the Selected Bidder for an estimated capital value of between £80m - £120m contract (as published in the OJEU) for the second private finance batch procured under the Priority School Building Programme, subject to the usual standstill period. The batch comprises 6 secondary schools and 6 primary schools in the North East of England.
The construction programme will provide new, purpose-built buildings for the benefit of 8,350 pupils as well as 188 nursery places. Miller Construction will be responsible for the design and construction of the schools as well as the provision of maintenance and lifecycle services over a 25 year period.
The secondary schools in this batch are:
- Bedlingtonshire Community High School, Northumberland
- The Duchess’s Community High School, Northumberland
- Laurence Jackson School, Redcar and Cleveland
- Longbenton Community College, North Tyneside
- Hetton School, Sunderland
- Seaham School of Technology, County Durham
The primary schools in this batch are:
- Front Street Primary School, Gateshead
- Hylton Castle Primary School, Sunderland
- Lingey House Primary School, Gateshead
- Mandale Mill Primary School, Stockton on Tees
- Roman Road Primary School, Gateshead
- Shiney Row Primary School, Sunderland
The next stage for Education Funding Agency, Miller Construction and the schools is to engage in a 6 month detailed design Selected Bidder stage through to Financial Close. The target Financial Close date is late November 2014.
Construction is due to start from December 2014 with all planned completions due by August 2016 or earlier.
