North East
County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust
County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust has installed two air source heat pumps in the Trust’s buildings, alongside roof-mounted solar panels to generate electricity. The building energy management system was also upgraded to improve energy efficiency.
Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust
Gateshead NHS Foundation Trust has installed air source heat pumps in buildings across the Trust’s property portfolio, including the women’s health clinic and the Tranwell Unit, which provides chemotherapy treatment to patients. The transport, IT and estates departments also received heat pumps, and solar panels were installed on the roofs of the buildings. The building energy management system was also upgraded to improve energy efficiency.
Northumbria University
Northumbria University have replaced end-of-life gas boilers with air source heat pumps in two buildings at their City Campus East location. LED lighting was also installed.
University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne
The University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne has installed heat pumps and solar panels at their Great North House office building. LED lighting, roof insulation, double glazing, air handling units and new automatic speed doors were also installed to improve the energy efficiency in the building.
Woodland Primary School, County Durham
Woodland Primary School in County Durham has replaced the school’s oil-fired boiler with three air source heat pumps and installed ground-mounted solar panels. The energy efficiency of the school was improved through the installation of LED lighting and cavity wall insulation.
Yorkshire and the Humber
Barnsley College, South Yorkshire
Barnsley College in South Yorkshire have installed an air source heat pump at their Wigfield Farm site. This removed the use of gas as a source for heating and hot water, reducing the site’s carbon emissions.
Enquire Learning Trust, Wakefield
The Enquire Learning Trust upgraded Stakesby Primary Academy and Eastfield Primary School. The 25-year-old boilers at both schools were replaced with air source heat pumps and new pipework was fitted.
Luminate Education Group, Leeds
Luminate Education Group has delivered energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation measures at the Park Lane campus in Leeds City College. Gas fired boilers were replaced with a hybrid heating system using air source heat pumps. The building was also fitted with LED lighting and cavity wall and ceiling insulation, while the building energy management system was upgraded to improve the efficiency of the campus.
North West
Cheshire East Council
Cheshire East Council has upgraded 27 sites including 11 leisure centres, nine libraries, two storage depots, an office building, an environmental hub, an entertainment hall, a historic estate, and an indoor market. Air source heat pumps were installed across the council’s building portfolio, alongside solar panels, roof insulation and building energy management systems.
Hillside Specialist School and College
Hillside Specialist School and College replaced its oil-fired boiler system with air source heat pumps. Cavity wall insulation, double glazing, a thermal store, and a new building energy management system were also installed to improve the overall energy efficiency of the college.
Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council
Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council has upgraded Huyton Library by installing an air source heat pump, solar panels and new LED lighting.
Liverpool Hope University
Liverpool Hope University has replaced end-of-life boilers and heat distribution systems with individual panel electric heaters, as well as solar panels to provide the site with a source of renewable energy. The energy efficiency of the university was also improved through the installation of wall insulation, double glazing and flow control taps in the bathrooms to reduce hot water usage.
Liverpool John Moores University
Liverpool John Moores University has installed an air source heat pump in its Henry Cotton Building, removing the need for gas on site. An air handling unit was also installed to improve the energy efficiency of the site by providing heat recovery for the building.
East Midlands
Derby College Group
Derby College Group has upgraded Broomfield Hall, Edale House, the Lathkilldale building and the Horticultural Centre educational facility. Water source heat pumps and an air source heat pump were installed across the sites to provide the buildings with low carbon heating and hot water. LED lighting, insulation and new building energy management controls were also fitted to improve energy use across the campus buildings.
West Midlands
Aston University, Birmingham
Aston University in Birmingham has installed air source heat pumps in its Aston Business School building. Solar panels, LED lighting and a new building energy management system were also installed.
Keele University
Keele University has replaced end-of-life natural gas boilers in the Walter Moberley building and connected the site to the Horwood district heating system. This connection is also providing heating to the chapel onsite.
Staffordshire University Academies Trust: All Saints Church of England Academy, Denstone
Staffordshire University Academies Trust has installed air source heat pumps at All Saints Church of England Academy in Denstone. The building energy management system and heating control valves were also upgraded to improve its overall energy efficiency.
Stephen Sutton Multi Academy Trust: Chase Terrace Technology College, Staffordshire
Stephen Sutton Multi Academy Trust has upgraded Chase Terrace Technology College in Staffordshire. The fossil fuel heating system was replaced with air source heat pumps and LED lighting and insulation were also installed.
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust has installed a heat pump, solar panels and LED lighting at Cannock Chase hospital.
Windsor Academy Trust: Great Wyrley Academy, Walsall
Windsor Academy Trust has replaced the gas fired heating systems at Great Wyrley Academy in Walsall with air source heat pumps. A building energy management system was also installed to improve the energy efficiency of the school.
East of England
Alpha Trust, Essex
Alpha Trust has delivered energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation measures at Manningtree High School and Colchester County High School for Girls. Air source heat pumps were installed at both schools and double glazing and roof insulation upgrades were undertaken at Manningtree High School.
Cambridgeshire County Council
Cambridgeshire County Council has delivered 2 projects. Air source heat pumps were installed in several schools, while new solar panels, LED lighting, building energy management system upgrades and pipework insulation upgrades were fitted at Harston and Newton Primary School. LED lighting was also installed at Great Gidding Primary School.
Comberton Village College, Cambridgeshire
Comberton Village College in Cambridgeshire has replaced all oil-fired boilers at the college with ground source heat pumps.
Cranfield University, Bedfordshire
Cranfield University has delivered a range of improvements centred on the district heating system on the university’s main campus. An air source heat pump was installed, upgrades were made to the building energy management system, and new LED lighting was fitted. An existing solar farm was also extended.
Essex County Council
Essex County Council has installed air source heat pumps and solar panels at the Adult Community Learning Centre in Witham. Building energy management system upgrades were also undertaken.
St Peter’s Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, Essex
St Peter’s Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School in Essex has replaced old gas-fired boilers with an air source heat pump as a means of heating its swimming pool. Solar panels were also installed on the main roof of the school to provide a renewable source of electricity.
South East
Berkshire College of Agriculture
Berkshire College of Agriculture has delivered energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation measures at their Learning Centre facility. The dual kerosene boiler system was replaced with an air source heat pump, while old pipework and heat emitters were replaced to fit the heat pump. The building energy management system was also upgraded.
Department for Transport
The Department for Transport has upgraded two aircraft hangars and an office block at the Air Accidents Investigation Branch site in Farnborough. Two oil-fired boilers were replaced by an air source heat pump, solar panels were installed, and the building energy management system was upgraded to help reduce electrical demand.
The Department for Transport is based in Greater London and has invested their grant in the South East.
East Sussex College Group
East Sussex College Group has delivered heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency improvements at Station Plaza, Eastbourne, Lewes Cliffe and Ore Valley campuses, as well as Lewes Performing Arts Centre. Ground source heat pumps were installed at the Ore Valley, Eastbourne, and Lewes campuses, while an air source heat pump was installed at Station Plaza Campus. Solar panels were fitted at Station Plaza, Eastbourne Campus, and Lewes Campus. Inefficient fluorescent lighting at all sites was replaced with new LED lighting.
Great Learners Trust: Elmers School, Buckinghamshire
Great Learners Trust has upgraded Elmhurst School in Buckinghamshire. An air source heat pump was installed to replace gas powered heaters, while new LED lighting was fitted throughout the school.
Pembroke College, University of Cambridge
Pembroke College at the University of Cambridge has installed an air source heat pump in a listed 12 bedroom student accommodation building.
Royal First School, Berkshire
Royal First School in Berkshire has installed a heat pump, heating distribution system and new roof insulation across its site.
Royal Latin School, Buckinghamshire
The Royal Latin School in Buckinghamshire has installed air source heat pumps and energy efficient radiators throughout the school.
Wolfson College, University of Oxford
Wolfson College at the University of Oxford has delivered heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures in the college’s main building, built in the 1970s. Air source heat pumps were installed, removing gas as a source of energy from the site. Also, interior walls were insulated and new double glazed windows were fitted.
South West
Gloucestershire College
Gloucestershire College has replaced gas boilers with ground source heat pumps at the college’s Cheltenham and Gloucester campuses. Solar panels were installed and building energy management system upgrades were also undertaken.
University of Gloucestershire
The University of Gloucestershire has delivered energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation measures across several of its campuses. Five gas boilers were replaced with heat pump systems in the halls of residence at its Oxstalls campus, while old gas-fired boilers were replaced with heat pumps in the Principals House building and the chapel at Francis Close Hall. Building energy management systems were upgraded across all campuses.
University of St Mark and St John, Plymouth
The University of St Mark and St John in Plymouth has installed ground source heat pumps and loft insulation.
Greater London
Croydon Health Services NHS Trust
Croydon Health Services NHS Trust has upgraded Croydon University Hospital. The end-of-life gas boiler in the estates building was replaced with an air source heat pump, while energy efficiency measures were also undertaken throughout the site. Double glazing, LED lighting and roof insulation were fitted, and building management systems and air handling units were upgraded.
Kings College Hospital NHS Trust
Kings College Hospital NHS Trust has upgraded the Golden Jubilee Wing at Denmark Hill. A new district heating connection was installed to replace gas boilers and new LED lighting was fitted.
London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham
London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham delivered 2 projects in which Broadway Children’s Centre and the Macbeth Centre Annex building, an adult learning centre, were fitted with new air source heat pumps. Loft insulation was also installed in the Macbeth Centre Annex.
Metropolitan Police Service
The Metropolitan Police Service implemented 3 projects to install air source heat pumps at Gipsy Hill Police Station, Walworth Police Station, and the dog training facilities at Keston Police Station. Infrared heating solar panels were fitted in the kennel block at Keston Dog Training Centre and LED lighting was installed at Walworth Police Station.
