The guidance sets out how the Department for Transport (DfT) will interpret Public Service Obligation (PSO) criteria for domestic air services and how a devolved administration or local authority can apply for a PSO.
It will provide transparency on the government’s assessment process to ensure fair and equal treatment for all applications on the requirements to qualify for a PSO route.
It also helps applicants understand how the government will apply the Regulation (EC) 1008/2008 in practice.
This guidance takes account of responses to DfT’s consultation Aviation 2050: the future of UK aviation alongside the Union connectivity review and the government’s subsequent response.
