Details

The Press Standards Board of Finance Limited (PressBoF) submitted to the Privy Council Office a petition for the grant of a Royal Charter.

On 10 July 2013, Her Majesty referred the Petition for a Royal Charter to a Committee of the Privy Council for consideration and report.

The Committee has examined the Petition and considers that it is not in line with government policy on the self-regulation of the press, based on the Leveson Report.

As such, the Committee is unable to recommend the Petition be granted. This letter from the Committee to the Privy Council sets out the reasons for that decision.
