Details

This report deals with the shortage occupation lists, a key feature of Tier 2 of the points base system (Tier 2 is for skilled workers with a job offer). The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) published its first such lists in September 2008.

This report is an interim 6-monthly review. It includes an analysis of occupations and specific job titles, including:

  • those the government asked MAC to review, including social workers and social care
  • those identified by us in the September 2008 report as being in possible shortage but where no evidence of shortage was received from stakeholders, such as welders and musicians
  • health-related occupations, a key area where the evidence base has started to improve
  • some occupations in construction, a sector badly hit by the economic downturn
