The Advocate General is seeking to appoint new members to the panel of Standing Junior Counsel to the Advocate General for Scotland. Appointments will run for four years.
The work of a Standing Junior is varied and those appointed will have the opportunity to undertake interesting work for a range of UK Government Departments including Home Office, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs, Ministry of Defence, and the Department for Work and Pensions. Both advisory and litigation work will be required, however availability for appearance work is an essential requirement for appointment.
Applications are also being invited for the post of Second Standing Junior to the Advocate General. The Second Standing Junior will be expected to work alongside the First Standing Junior Counsel, who is Graham Maciver. They will also require to undertake specific functions relative to the well-being of our panel of Standing Junior Counsel, and to liaise with the Office of the Advocate General for Scotland (OAG) in relation to the provision of training and the sharing of information and legal developments.
On this page are copies of the information for applicants explaining the arrangements and criteria for both appointments, together with a copy of the application forms and the forms to be completed by referees.
Applications for both posts should be submitted in accordance with the instructions set out in the Information for Applicants by no later than midnight on Monday, 17 June 2024.
