This joint response from the Department of Health and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills sets out the actions that the government will take to support the development of regenerative medicines in the UK.

Regenerative medicine involves replacing or regenerating tissues or organs in the human body, in order to restore or establish normal function. Examples include stem cell therapy, gene therapy and tissue engineering.

Government will set up a Regenerative Medicine Expert Group to develop an NHS regenerative medicine strategy and to monitor the effect of regulation in this area.
