Regulating for people, the environment and growth, 2020

Environment Agency 2020 annual report on the environmental performance of regulated businesses in England and the work we do to regulate them.

Applies to England

Documents

Details

This report provides information about:

  • emissions from the businesses we regulate
  • the number of serious pollution incidents and sectors responsible
  • compliance with environmental permits
  • how we support the businesses we regulate
  • the enforcement action we take when a business does not comply

The Environment Agency applies the regulatory framework set by government. We work with businesses to make sure they operate in a way that avoids harming people or the environment, without imposing unnecessary administrative burdens on them.

  1. Corrected an error in the section Illegal waste exports. The figure for the number of waste containers inspected should have been 869 and not 1,719.

  2. There was an error in section 2.4 Green growth and a sustainable future. The second bullet point should have said 'We inspected 869 containers of waste' and not 1719 containers of waste. This has now been corrected.

  3. First published.
